Progressive Life Center, Ghana LTD

Progressive Life Center, Ghana was established in 2001 but started operation in September 2002. The beginning of the 21st century, psychosocial problems increased in Ghana. Africans especially Ghanaians had abundant natural resources which they were not utilizing. For instance there was an abundance of gold, cocoa and land produce, yet little industries to use the raw materials to meet the needs of Ghanaian’s growing population. It finally created low jobs and increased social vices such as prostitution, armed robbery, child delinquency and frustrations among Ghanaians. Subsequently, the need for industrialization which was associated with urbanization also posed psychosocial problems among citizens in the main cities of Ghana. Since there was no psychological center to handle the increasingly psychosocial problems among Ghanaians, Progressive Life Center was established to cater for those needs.

Progressive Life Center was established to improve the delivery of mental health services to individuals and families. PLC (Ghana) is an affiliate of Progressive Life Center headquartered in Washington DC. In Ghana, PLC is the first organization with a professional staff to provide solely psychological services the past 8 years. PLC (Ghana) was established together with a Non-profit making Governmental Organization known as the Progressive Life Society Ghana. The NGO section of
the Progressive Life Center is intended to solicit grants from local and international sources to provide free community-based programs in Ghana.

Projections

Meetings with key members of Mediators Beyond Borders (MBB) suggest that Progressive Life will be engaged to provide psychosocial support services for former child soldiers who reside in Budumburam.

Progressive Life Center USA has been very inspirational to the Progressive Life Center Ghana office, which appreciates all contributions from PLC USA headquarters, especially staff trainings which are associated with high costs. The Ghana staff is being motivated to work harder to bring out the objective of the Progressive Life Center including financial independence.
